When I first spoke with Dr. Nauri about it, I wasn’t convinced it would translate into a real teaching environment. Managing a classroom full of students is unpredictable, emotional, and fast-moving. I didn’t see how a structured model could hold up in that kind of pressure.
But I decided to apply it anyway, and that’s when everything shifted.
The first thing I noticed was Awareness. Instead of immediately reacting to disruptive behavior, I started separating what was actually happening from how I felt about it. That alone reduced a lot of unnecessary escalation.
Then came Poise. This was the hardest part. Staying composed when students were testing boundaries required discipline, but I quickly realized that my tone and body language were setting the emotional temperature of the room. When I stayed steady, the class stabilized faster.
Execution became clearer. I stopped over-talking, over-correcting, and reacting emotionally. My responses became more intentional, short, direct, and consistent. Students started responding differently because my actions were more predictable and controlled.
And the biggest shift was Influence. I didn’t have to demand authority anymore, it was recognized. The classroom felt more structured, more respectful, and surprisingly, less stressful.
What I initially doubted turned out to be exactly what I needed. The APEX EI Model™ didn’t just help me manage my students, it helped me manage myself under pressure. And that changed everything about how I lead my classroom."
